Dead to Rights: Retribution
More AWOL gameplay in Dead to Rights: Retribution’s “fly-by” video. Granted, fly-by videos don’t usually contain a ton of action but this one is unusually drab. The lonely siren wailing softly in the background only reinforces the emptiness of the set pieces. Likely, these rainy gray and brown environs will feel more exciting when they’re riddled with bullet holes and splashed with chunks of organ meat. Unfortunately, all the stuff we’re looking forward to in D2R:R - the savage criminals, the gore-spewing take-downs and the dog – are nowhere to be seen.
NCAA Football 10
C-c-c-combo breaker! This trailer avoids the pitfall of not showing any gameplay, but it still has a couple foibles to point out. Like the relentless, shameless product placement. Or the fact that it’s encouraging college kids to pursue meaningless “credits” for their school’s virtual football team instead of working on the real academic credits they’ll need to graduate. Wait, why are we complaining? Someone’s gotta drag that curve down. We recant. Please, spend all your time earning “extra credit” in NCAA Football 10 instead of going to class. Your parents are good for a few extra semesters, right?
Brutal Legend
One last footage-free trailer to call out, but this time we’re not really complaining because it is a star vehicle for Mr Jack Black, and features a cameo by game god Tim Schaefer. Oh, and there’s nifty special effects in the form of fake vomit, so we didn’t even really notice that the game is nowhere to be seen.
