Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal auditioned for Spider-Man and The Punisher together

At long last, we've clapped eyes on the new Spider-Man. And we've had several glimpses at the new version of The Punisher. Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal landed those roles last year, but what we didn't know until now was how the cunning duo managed to snag those coveted parts.

According to Bernthal, while both actors were working together on medieval actioner Pilgrimage in Ireland last year they decided to help one another out on their Marvel auditions. Instead of filming single auditions, the sort that usually has an actor delivering lines solo, the pair teamed up to give their performances a bit of an edge.

"We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher," Bernthal tells the New York Daily News. "During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel - just acting together. These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox."

In a nutshell: Marvel has footage of Spider-Man and The Punisher acting together. Seeing as the pair aren't expected to meet onscreen anytime soon - even though they share some key panels in the "Civil War" comic - these tapes are like a holy grail for Marvel fans.
