In the firm belief that whatever Richard and Judy can do, we can do better, we started a book group of our own in the mag a few months back.
On the reading list for November is A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M Millar. Set in a post-apocalyptic USA, it centres on an order of monks who preserve relics from before "the flame deluge" - scraps of writing including handwritten shopping lists! Click here to find out more. You can buy loads of different editions from Amazon , by the way (or pop down your local library).
The book won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1961. Respected SF author and SFX contributor Jon Courtenay Grimwood is a great admirer of the novel, and will be writing about it in SFX issue 152 (on sale 20 December). But that's a ways off yet! In the meantime, why not read the book with us and let us know what you think of it, in this thread on our forum? Who knows, we might print some of your opinions in the mag!
