The Prisoner is back

After years of false starts, ‘60s classic The Prisoner is finally all set to return. ITV has just announced a reinvention of the Patrick McGoohan-starring original, with The Passion of the Christ and Frequency star Jim Caviezel as Number Six and Sir Ian McKellen as his nemesis, Number Two.

Penned by Lark Rise to Candleford and Clocking Off writer Bill Gallagher, this new Prisoner will, according to ITV’s press release, “reflect 21st century concerns and anxieties, such as liberty, security and surveillance, yet also showcase the same key elements of paranoia, tense action and socio-political commentary seen in McGoohan’s enigmatic original.”

The six-part series is set to debut in 2009. We'll be seeing you then, Mr Caviezel!
