Rikimaru and Ayame
Many video game ninja blindly overlook one of the ninja's most key skills, stealth. Unlike the one-man armies that single-handedly dispose of legions of medieval cannon fodder, the stars of the Tenchu series, Rikimaru and Ayame try to use stealth and sneakiness to dispose of their foes unawares, but fail miserably.
Slipping unsuspecting guards poisonous rice and escaping with smoke bombs sounds very ninja-like, but doing so with Rikimaru and Ayame in the clunky confines of the Tenchu series’ control scheme is filled with all kinds of wrong. The game's stealth kill system has you performing the ninja equivalent of a touchdown dance after each kill, which strikes us as rather un-shinobi-like. A real ninja would move on to their next target with cold and deadly precision, and wouldn't have to fight with the camera control on the way.
