The Top 7… games you either love or hate

What lovers see: 493 unique reasons to never stop playing, and playing, and playing. Depending on your age, Pokemon represents either the coolest and cutest collectibles in history… or a matchlessly deep, hardcore RPG. In fact, most players enjoy it as both, hunting the super powered critters for their distinctive adorability as well as their distinctive strategic elements. Trading and special events merely add to the series’ everlasting appeal.

What haters see: 493 unique reasons to never stop paying, and paying, and paying. Pokemon represents nothing but a giant blank check for Nintendo… a check that the corporation greedily cashes in over and over again. The gameplay has yet to evolve even once and the super marketed critters are designed merely to push as much merchandise off store shelves as possible. Ignore the silly religious controversies and this series is still evil.

What lovers see: The ultimate evolution of the arcade shooter, from the brilliantly twisted mind of the ultimate indie game designer. Mind-melting visuals and uncompromisingly complex gameplay may turn off the casual first comer, but those with a patience and will to learn are rewarded repeatedly for their mastery. Retro and progressive at once, Space Giraffe challenges both your perception and your complacency.

What haters see: A poorly disguised Tempest clone that’s few innovations include an obnoxiously steep learning curve, a woefully inept tutorial and an endless series of cheap deaths that can be avoided only through luck or memorization. Throw in the aspirin-selling excuse for a soundtrack, as well as the nauseating screen saver graphics, and Space Giraffe becomes more punishment than entertainment.

Halo is the definition of an average game if you ask me. Give a character a gun and some aliens and there you have it, Doom-point-5.

Kinda late to this article, but here's my opinion anyways haha. Assassin's Creed- Great game that was a little on the repetitive side. Guitar Hero/Rock Band - Always hated them, but I sucked at them so that may have been part of it. Killzone 2 - It was a good game, but it wasn't amazing and wasn't unique enough to keep me coming back to it. Space Giraffe - Never Played Pokemon - Awesome, all I got to say is "Haters gonna hate" Dead Rising - Was fun but flaws kept it from being great Halo - Halo 3 and now Halo Reach (which wasn't out when this article was written) are probably my favorite shooters of this generation. I honestly don't understand how people can hate this game, but numerous people who aren't fanboys have said they don't like it so I guess it's possible. I love them games though.

GREAT article. This perfectly demonstrates why people need to stop taking reviews as gospel and try games out before forming opinions on them. Except GamesRadar's reviews. They're always right. :)
  • EwoksTasteLikeChicken - December 3, 2010 11:03 p.m.

I love both Assassin's Creed and Halo, although I have friends who don't...
  • INFINITYGAUNTLET - July 28, 2010 7:54 p.m.

Assassin's Creed = Pretty doesn't equal brilliant. Killzone = Uniquely mediocre.

Am I the only gamer who hates horror-movie games, from Silent Hill to all those games with zombies ?? You can indeed logically infer that I am also no fan of horror movies, Stephen King, or vampires either....
  • TrollMan - March 23, 2010 3 a.m.

other then space graffiti, new Pokemon games i love all of these the only one I'm in the middle for is assassin's creed (only the first one not the second)
  • Zeb364 - March 23, 2010 12:28 a.m.

I can't believe you actually managed to find an article connecting a site call to freakin Rock Band/Guitar Hero. That's Hilarious!
  • GibsonSG - January 3, 2010 10:21 p.m.

Who in the hell said halo sucks!? One word: NOOB! One good idea though is to release halo 1 2 and 3 again, except you play as the covenent!!!!
  • onyxfyre1 - January 3, 2010 12:53 a.m.

havnt played most of those games. rockband/ guitar hero I think was fun at first then gets boring, and you look at the fake guitar and say, "why isnt this a real guitar in my hand?". I had assasins creed:bloodline. I thought it was really fun but i was basicly doing the same thing the whole time. infact it took me 5 hours to beat that game. maybe even less. although assasins creed 2 look really fun.
  • dannage805 - October 21, 2009 7:56 p.m.

  • Remake - July 7, 2009 7:25 a.m.

I'm rofling all my copters at Halo. Dead Rising was good, but Halo just couldn't be beaten. The quotes... The link to VG Cats... it was all so perfect. (Common sense ends here) Also, u pplz may haz commntd 1st, but i r 1337 n commntd on 2:24 on tuesday cuz i r pro forum user. (Common sense resumes) I just read the article on people that comment 'first'.
  • Murcielago - June 1, 2009 2:58 a.m.

I'm admittedly a PlayStation fanboy and yet I can't put down Halo...on the right system that is. Why the heck hasn't Halo 3 on PC happened yet? Halo PC/CE and Halo 2 for Vista are two of my absolute favourite games ever, but I can't get used to the 360's right/bottom 'log stick for Halo. Also with Pokemon I used to absolutely love it....but now I absolutely hate it. Me and my lvl 100 Primeape absolutely pwned all in Yellow Version but now it's just boring and way too long to me.
  • GG Gabby - May 6, 2009 2:53 p.m.

I both loled and was insulted what that guy had to comment about not just GH and RB but also about Rock n' Roll........Seriously!? Rock is communism!? Get a Life!!! Rock n' Roll is just Rock n' Roll! -AC/DC-
  • woot117 - May 5, 2009 12:17 a.m.

where was call of duty i hate that game
  • noofer7 - April 30, 2009 4:14 p.m.

The Christian article on Pokemon teaching kids "occult and evolutionary" stuff was the dumbest piece of bullshit I have ever seen. It was kind of funny how stupid it was, but it was really more sad that there are really people in the world who actually think like that.
  • Assassin4than - April 28, 2009 3:28 a.m.

i love halo and keep coming back but i definately agree with potty mouthed children perverted frat boys those little kids with the squeaky voices always get laughed at by the frat boys so the kids swear and they just keep going
  • AuthorityFigure - April 24, 2009 4:45 a.m.

Yep. Halo is the Coca-Cola of FPSs.
  • 88Meters - April 19, 2009 2:49 p.m.

Truly, Halo was kinda crap. Not to make the fanboys mad. I said kinda.
