The Top 7... games we want announced at E3 2009

Don’t get it? Well, in case you haven’t noticed, Hollywood is currently attempting – for about the billionth time – to make audiences care about 3D movies. For some odd reason, though, it’s finally working. People are flocking to see Coraline, Bolt and Monsters vs Aliens in record numbers. Those films are just the beginning – many more 3D theater experiences are in production or development. But how does that extend to videogames? The television sets, dear reader.

See, while you may be happy with that 1080p LCD widescreen you just purchased, brand new cameras are now shooting in 5000p (5K). Sony’s new projectors are 4K. In other words, your technology is already outdated… you just don’t realize it yet. Beyond those super high resolutions, many companies are also investing in 3D television sets, waging a format warlike that between HD-DVD and Blu-ray. We’ve noticed these, as well as 3D desktop monitors, cropping up at trade shows with Burnout Paradise and Call of Duty 4 on display. And they look good.

Can we finally agree that next-gen means current-gen? And if we do that, what about next-next-gen? What about Gears of War 3? Will we see Marcus Fenix blast a Locust a mile away, which actually appears a mile away? What about Geometry Wars extending outside of the screen, blasting pixels that seem inches away from your eyes? What about a new Mario Tennis… in 3D!

While we’re probably at leastfive yearsaway from proper 3D television sets working in your home, we hope some courageous developer will decide to throw down the gauntlet at this year’s E3. C’mon guys, show off your forward-looking plans and let the competition know the future is onthe way.
