Cancelled? After all that work? Yep â€“ SOE's massively-multiplayer online FPS spy-em-up was looking pretty complete, with videos, interviews and screenshots all over the place. But after 200 employees were laid off, it just wasn't viable to continue work on such an ambitious game and it was cancelled.

It's such a shame - the game was the darling of E3, appearing at both E3 2009 and 2010 (and CES before that in '08). The action itself may have had somewhat basic aesthetics (more polygons used on boobs than anything else, in honesty), but the idea of a game world that kept going while you were away from it was sound.
In particular, asking your scientist to create a new gun for you from a blueprint you discovered would have taken a couple of days in real-world time. And then, you'd get a text message on your real life cell-phone to tell you that your gun is ready and waiting for you. That's pretty damn cool, even if it does make you a potential terror suspect.

It's rare that we get so much insight into a game's production only for it to be snatched away at the last second. Sad thing is, most of the development team in the videos seem genuinely excited about their creation.
