The Top 7... Bloodiest games you've never played

6.  Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix - Activision, 2003 - PC, Xbox

This one's a case of delayed gratification. Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix was... "celebrated"... for its dismemberment system - players could slice off limbs, even faces. That was particularly brutal, even as recently as 2003, but realistically, the blood didn't spray - it oozed.

Slowly, deliberately, once the body of your enemy had slumped over as a pile of literally dead meat, blood trickled out, pooling under the corpse and spreading across the floor. Many games go over the top with depictions of blood, but Soldier of Fortune II kept it subtle and sick.

Above: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix: keeping alive the grand tradition of horrifyingly inhumane corpse mutilation.

Shadow of Rome was an amazing game but kinda felt immature with the gore... like it was there olny gimick. Would have been an amazing game if i could take it seriously.

If anyones ever played the game "Die By The Sword" i personally think tht shouldve been in there due to the dismemberment of limbs factor of it.

Just goes to show that anything in excess eventually becomes hilarious. I don't know why No More Heros wasn't on this list (the uncensored U.S. version at least), and it's too bad Madworld wasn't released in time for this article, it would fit right in.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is freaking amazing. I still play the multiplayer on that game. The single player is still entertaining to me.
  • jerome0003 - April 26, 2009 8:14 a.m.

i somehow managed to get a copy of thrill kill
  • OrpheusZero - April 24, 2009 8:27 p.m.

@ericairasole : In the beginning of the article, it says that it would address the games that were more obscure, as opposed to more mainstream ones. I'm pretty sure GoW 1 and 2 fall under the "mainstream" category.
