The Smurfs 2 review

The little blue guys portal to Paris to stop Gargamel (Hank Azaria) turning Smurfette (Katy Perry) to the dark side in a second helping of Peyo-inspired inanity whose only achievement is to redress its predecessor’s gender imbalance. (Say hello to Christina Ricci as Smurf-wannabe Vexy.)

Otherwise it’s the same sappy drivel as before, with Brendan Gleeson swelling the human contingent as an unappreciated stepdad to Neil Patrick Harris who gets morphed into a duck. The French for false duck, incidentally, is faux canard – which is how hard you’ll have to toil to get anything of value from Raja Gosnell’s sequel...
