The theory is that it maintains the athlete’s bio-field coherency and therefore performance. However, it’s a subtle yet powerful effect when taken as part of an overall training regime. Crystals can exude radioactive gases, such as radon which may increase your chance of lung cancer in 20 years. Also, while some crystals will provide an enhancement effect, if not cleansed and “recharged” regularly they can have a negative effect.
