It’s an old story: big Hollywood film attempts to make a huge splash in China, a country with a massive population and a censorship-happy government.
The latest to receive a cool welcome from Chinese film officials is The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, which is ironic since so much of it was shot in the country. Universal is naturally playing up the positive angle: “We do not anticipate any obstacles to clearing the film for China and looks forward to releasing Tomb of The Dragon Emperor in the country where it was set and shot." Translation: we’ll cut what’s needed, let us at your box office…
