The Event (Definitely) and Chuck (Probably) Get Full Season Pick-Ups

One’s fact, the other’s a strong rumour

Good news for two of the best telefantasy airing at the moment. NBC has given the thumbs up to The Event for a full season of episodes, and – according to Entertainment Weekly ’s Mike Ausiello (who’s rarely wrong in these matters) – the same network will imminently announce that Chuck ’s fourth-season run has been extended by nine episodes too.

Of course, this is a pattern that’s becoming familiar to Chuck fans, but it looks like the show has survived another year by the skin of its teeth again. It’s exciting being a Chuck fan, isn’t it? Its viewing figures haven’t been amazing this year, but at least they haven’t been plummeting like many shows, so that’s a bonus. And there’s always the Subway sponsorship to keep the show in profit…

With The Event, after an initial dip in ratings that had everyone worrying this was going to be Flash Forward all over again, viewers then realised that it wasn’t going to be as monumentally pompous as that show, and the viewing figures have levelled out. More importantly, it's doing massively better for NBC than the same show in the same time slot this time last year, it achieving massive DVR time-shift figures, and they’ve also managed to sell it to 200 overseas broadcasters.

So congrats to both.
