We also tried out the online multiplayer, which has been kept in the dark (har har) until now. There’s still much to be revealed, but we know it will be eight player on both Xbox 360 and PS3, with traditional deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and survivor (last human alive wins) modes to romp around in. The matches are fast, hectic, and mostly a lot of fun. The tap of the left bumper button (we played the 360 build) transforms you instantly from a normal human (who can wield all sorts of weapons) to a darkling, capable of instantly scaling most surfaces in any direction, but only attack with a melee slash. It’s an interesting mechanic that seems well-balanced even at this stage, and we’re excited to see more levels unveiled as we near release. The minimal auto-targeting present in the single-player seemed completely absent in multiplayer, making aiming a bit imprecise considering the speed of the action. They have a few months of development left though, so it shouldn’t be a problem to tighten things up.
