The CW Renews The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and Arrow

It’s official! There’ll be a ninth season of Supernatural , a fifth season of The Vampire Diaries and a second season of Arrow , as US network the CW gives early orders for new seasons of each of those shows. Notably no mention of Beauty And The Beast at this stage.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on," says CW president Mark Pedowitz, "and now with our new hit Arrow and fan-favourite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that. Not only do Arrow , Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

Arrow has been a major ratings hit for The CW’s and is currently the network’s most-watched show with audience up to 4.3 million. The Vampire Diaries remains a hit in important target demographics women 18-34 (all those shirtless shots and smouldering glances work, y’see) and is also a massive hit on the social networks (OMG! Damons shirt OFF! Skweee!). Supernatural has actually seen audiences increase year (up to 15%), partly because it’s been paired with Arrow , and partly because it’s got its mojo back.
