The bloodiest games you've never played

Dark Sector

While it suffered from a “me too guys!” appearance and a small set of gameplay problems, Dark Sector was still one of our favorite games of 2008. The razor-boomerang glaive let you shred enemies from just about anywhere on the map, and the CQC takedowns were as brutal as anything you’d find in Gears 2 or Fallout 3.

Above: If it has a limb, you can tear it off

Sadly, Sector didn’t fare too well at retail, leading us to believe most of you didn’t play it (unless you listen to TalkRadar, where we’ve told you to repeatedly). There is an upside to this misfortune, however:

Above: BUY IT ALREADY

Amazon is punting copies out their nonexistent doors for $3.25, which is less than god damn Sneak King. We’ve seen it at Wal-Mart for $5.00, and GameStop for roughly the same price. Trust us, it is worth $5.00… as long as you don’t try any multiplayer. It was deserted long ago.

Dead Space Extraction

Same story as Dark Sector – amazingly competent game with strong review scores that sold like a kick in the nuts. Rather than try to emulate the gorgeously graphic 360/PS3 game, EA instead made this a rail-shooter prequel that felt more like an interactive movie that true game. We mean that in the best possible fashion.

Above: A sampling of the violence

There are absolutely no punches pulled here. In that video alone you’ll find decapitations, dismemberment and self-mutilation, plus a gory climax in which you must cut off your own freaking arm. Hellish stuff.

How poorly did it fare? Sales data claim Extraction sold less than 9,300 copies in its debut week, a dismal debut by any reckoning. If this ends up dropping to $30 or less before the holidays, do yourself a favor and snatch it up.

Got anything for us? A grisly adventure we’ve left out that perhaps only you remember? Let us know in the comments below!

Oh, Chiller. I learned about that infamous bonus room from Stuff magazine years ago. Hated it instantly. Violence in games rarely shocks me, but that's one of the worst things I've ever seen. Another bloody game you could have mentioned: Monster Party (NES). Wikipedia it. You'll be creeped out by it far more than you could ever imagine.

Dude what about Conker: Live and Reloaded? Why do you people always forget about that game? That game has so much gore if you hold a grenade for too long the upper half of your body blows up. There's blood and guts everywhere. You people that post these remember to think about that game. I've seen it in one of these things and it was great re-makes. So just take it in consideration. Or I will destroy you

Dragon age was pretty bloody too.
  • INFINITYGAUNTLET - July 28, 2010 7:41 p.m.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is a masterpiece! Also, check the gore in OPFPDR. It's both exhilarating and disturbing.

I played Abadox! It it pretty fun, too, I miss games like that... Thrill Kill has surprisingly good animation. I love the crazy metal soundtrack as that one girl does the macarena @crumb dunky well... i really have to say that absolutely no one cares why you're pissed. And why not blame Wii owners for not buying it? It's a solid, competent game. I don't have it simply because i'm a poor college student and can't afford all the crap I want. You also contradict yourself by saying that everyone wanted a Dead Space game but then that they provided a game that no one wanted. Actually, you kind of frighten me. someone hold me...

  • crazyqazqaz - October 31, 2009 4:20 p.m.

@crumb dunky You know where it says you've got 5000 characters remaining? Yeah, well you don't have to use them all up...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

  • GameManiac - October 31, 2009 4:06 p.m.

Can this article's title BE any more true (except for the last page, I've clearly heard about those last games). Turning your blood to the colors of the rainbow... SEE the rainbow! Taste the rainbow! (from the skittles commercial) Massive LOL

I can't agree with you guys n the Dark Sector stuff too much. I had the misfortune of playing it on both 360 AND the uber fiddly PS3 sixaxis-glaive-driving version(man-I thought the controls for Lair were weak!)AND as I'd rented it at launch I also beheld the terminal dullness that the epitomy of tacked on multiplayer managed to be with actual opponents! Had the sodded the MP off and spent the cash on a better SP it ould have been saved as some of the takedowns with the gld special powers were cool. That said, it stole the glaive off Blade2 FFS. BLADE2! I think you understand me.And in that game you could, IIRC, lop off at least seven or eight vampire hoggins inone throw with Blade's glaive! So, a game with pi55 weak MP and a glaive weakler than that in a movie tie in game which sank without trace is one of GR's "favourite" games o? I do NOT believe you and $3.50 sounds about fair to me. However, kudoringing up the one arcade game that always bothered me a little-Chiller. Funnily enough I NEVER saw anyone actually play it but watchgo through it's demo used to attract a queasy crowd sometimes. TestDDs adds a good question about what kind of umen the game would appeal to though. Thankfully very few if our greasy spoon and bandit fuelled arcade was much to by! It was just called The Arcade for ages but once they brought in a bandit for the first time it became The Monte Carlo! FFS!Good times with the SF cabs though, good times! Plenty of 1942 as well. Anyway, no. Dark Sector was pants and the public got it right with that one in much the same way that EA got it totally wrong by continuing the trens of Rail shooters on the Wii. EVERYONE wanted a real DS experience and no matter now good and good looking Extraction would be could EVER make up for the fact they made entirely the wrong game for a consle populous starved of a decent TPS survival horror to play since the awesome Wii edition of RE4 And they ignored the fact that if you don't stick "Resident" and "Evil" on your Wii rail shooter it's as good as dead. Then in an act befitting the old EA(or modern Acti) they blamed Wii owners for not buying a game they never wanted in the first place and made it quite clear to EA at the time! Seriously does anyone know anyone who wasn't less interested once the words rail, lightgun and shooter start being used here? Even EA knew it which is why they won't call it a rail shooter but a "guided FP game" or whatever. So why is it the game's fan EA? And why did you then fail to advertise it at all outside of the odd gaming site that 0.007 percent of Wii owners will ever visit? Sorry, I'm in a bad mood. I HATE Hallowe'en since ours in the UK went all American and trick or treaty. In my day my dad would have made me take ALL the loot back and apologize for behaving like some dirty homeless beggar. What's more the miserable git would have been right. A move back towards "mischeif night" is what's needed in the UK-a move back to stealing people's gates and kicking the wing mirrors off of cars and supergluing EVERYTHING possible while using copious amounts of fireworks. And not US aping collecting door to door dressed in a sheet with a glowing placcy pumkin. Hey, fine for the States but it just isn't English. We should stop it.
  • TestDDs - October 30, 2009 10:58 p.m.

Now i am a fan of the bloodiest games ever but that game Chilller... Jesus motherfucking Christ that shit is wrong on many levels. Who the fuck makes torture games and who the fuck plays them?
