The Beard speaks

A quick poll at Total Film towers and we discover that the most glamorous speakers during our time in education were a now unemployed Division One football manager and an ‘80s pop star so boring, people in the audience were openly trying to get some kip.

So imagine if you will just how thrilled we all were for the students at the University of Southern California who were able to engage in a Q&A yesterday with a fella called Spielberg. You know – that guy who did the shark movie?

Here’s the juice from the beard himself…

Indiana Jones 4: The script is in rewrite territory with George Lucas and another writer working on it as time allows. The ‘Berg and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, are not sure what changes are being made or when they will get to see them.

Jurassic Park 4: Spielberg commented about a scene from Michael Crichton’s novel The Lost World involving a high-speed chase between raptors and characters on motorbikes. He said he regretted this not making it into the movie but it would definitely appear in the fourth instalment.

Munich: Longtime Spielberg composer John Williams began twig-waving duties on 9 November but is a notoriously quick worker. As we have reported, The Beard is more than confident that his epic based on the Israeli assassinations at the 1972 Olympics will be complete by the end of this month. In addition, Spielberg told how the project so got under his skin that he was only managing four hours sleep a night during filming.

Finally, while discussing how some directors remake their own movies, he commented that one day in the future he would like to have another stab at his 1974 kidnap crime drama The Sugarland Express, which originally starred Goldie Hawn and William Atherton.

Reports suggest no students slept during Mr Spielberg’s speech. Funny that....
