It's turning into quite the day for getting excited about Nintendo games that I previously could raise barely an audible snore in aid of. First Skyward Sword suddenly starts looking like the freshest, most innovative Zelda possibly ever. Then Super Mario 3D Land gives me a sharp, zesty shock from the trusty wall-socket of giddy, old-school Mario-awe. And now another bloody Mario Kart comes along, but manages to affront me completely by actually looking fun and exciting. The cheeky sod.

Anyway, in Retro Studios I trust. They've proven repeatedly that they can freshen up old Nintendo franchises while staying effortlessly true to the originals, so I don't see why they won't here. And well, you know.... Just imagine how awesomely you'll puke when pulling a 3D first-person power-slide. Really awesomely, that's how awesomely.

    Driving on rooftops? First person driving (that may or may not be used by me)? Yeah, this wasn't coming off of my Christmas list before and it is cemented there now. Mario Kart DS is still my favorite Mario Kart. Seeing this game's improvements and no sign of the blue shell (yet, but it'll probably be there), this could beat it.

    Please. Please tell me I'm not imagining that blue shell without wings. Please tell me that they're going back to the N64 mechanic where it would move through the stage and could hit anybody on the way to first place instead of it being absolutely unavoidable if you're in first. MAKE IT HAPPEN NINTENDO AND THIS WILL BE THE BEST MARIO KART EVER.

    Im the kind of Person who actually LIKES the first-person driving, I loved it since a certain GBA racing game brought it( i forgot its name), I find it awesome that Mario Kart Decided to do it, but i heard its gyro controls, i hope there's an option without it! This game is turning out great! If it Mixes both unique special things from DS and Wii along with its own, it can turn out to be the best! Also, there's a little debate, either there's an item that turns you metal, or Metal Mario is once again his own character, also there's word that LAKITU will be a character aswell. During the conference they showed gameplay of Paper Mario looking fanf*ckingtastic and Weeegee mansion 2 showing more Darker rooms, could it hurt to ask you guys to post it, i cant find them anywhere

    Lakitu and Metal Mario are confirmed by Nintendo. http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2011/nintendo_3ds_news_3d_video_capability_dates_for_mario_games_and_new_colour_44787.html Lakitu needed to find a new job after the cars could fly off cliffs and go underwater, I guess.

    I dont think it looks awful, there making use of all 3ds hardware. The 3d and gyroscope, which is good, if your've got it, you it!

    This does look pretty fun, with more innovation than Mario Kart Wii, but eeeeesh that first person mode looks quite awful.
