Terminator: Genesis gets its Kyle Reese shortlist down to two

Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genesis looks on the brink of making another significant piece of casting, with the production having whittled the shortlist of actors for the role of Kyle Reese down to two.

At the beginning of the year it was revealed that Jai Courtney, Boyd Holbrook, Wilson Bethel, Sam Reid and Tom Cocquerel were all set to test for the part, as made famous by Michael Biehn in the original films.

Now it transpires that Courtney and Holbrook are the final two, with the studio set to decide between the pair in the coming weeks.

Holbrook has been seen in supporting roles in Milk , The Host and Behind The Candelabra , and he has filmed parts in Jane Got A Gun , Gone Girl and one of Terrence Malick's upcoming dramas. Courtney muscled his way to prominence in A Good Day To Die Hard , and impressed in Jack Reacher . He'll next be seen in Divergent .

Whichever star gets the nod will find himself lining up alongside the returning Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke as Sarah and John Connor respectively.

Directed by Taylor from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, Terminator: Genesis will open in the UK on 26 June 2015.
