Those who caught Ten Minutes Older: The Trumpet will know the drill: a selection of arthouse directors (here drawn from Britain and Europe) make a 10-minute film on the subject of the passing of time, with each short linked by a musical interlude.

This time out, however, only two of the eight contributions stand out from the pack: Jirí Menzel crafts an affectionate tribute to his late friend, Czech movie star Rudolf Hrusinsky; and Jean-Luc Godard dazzles with his despair-drenched montage In The Darkness Of Time, which sees Avro Pärt's poignant music played over memorable clips from the auteur's own back catalogue.

Elsewhere, the likes of Bernardo Bertolucci, Mike Figgis and Claire Denis disappoint.
