Teen Titans power up

Just because Marvel comics is putting every superhero it owns up on the screen, that doesn’t mean Warner Brothers will automatically plunder the archives of DC Comics for lesser known characters… Oh, wait… Actually, it does.

The studio is developing a live-action version of Teen Titans, a junior Justice League squad who first got their start in the four-colour pages way back in 1964. Made up of sidekicks – such as Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Wonder Girl – it saw the young crime fighters head out on their own adventures. But the ‘80s brought real success as the team was re-launched as a college-age heroes and added a few extra characters into the mix.

The most recent version saw them turned into animation for a series on the US Cartoon Network. And now Akiva Goldsman – yes, he won an Oscar but we can’t forget he also wrote Batman And Robin – is involved in a live action movie, although he’s just producing. Mark Verheiden (he wrote The Mask and has recently been working on the updated Battlestar Galactica series) is the man actually charged with scribbling the script.
