Taron Egerton won't be playing Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse

Following the news that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen won't be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, Kingsman star Taron Egerton has revealed that he won't be either.

Despite rumours attaching him to the role of Cyclops, Egerton confirmed with MTV that he won't be donning the fancy eyewear as the younger version of the mutant hero.

“I can say I'm not doing X-Men,” he says. “I love the X-Men films. I love the people who make them, on and off screen. I'd love to one day sometime, but in this instance, that rumour's unfounded.”

On the subject of other superheroes he'd love to play, though, Egerton revealed that a certain web-slinger is top of the list.

“If I could play any superhero, my favourite is Spider-Man,” Egerton says, “and I think Andrew Garfield is wonderful, to the point where I don't think I should do it!”

You can see Egerton in action in Kingsman: The Secret Service when it opens in the UK on 29 January.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse opens on 19 May 2016.
