I love my PCs but I find it hard to compare the experience with my consoles. I remember growing up patching everything, tweaking this and that to get games to play, and dreading the games that would not like my video card for some reason. I recently bought a PC that I could easily upgrade for Diablo III but aside from Abobo's big adventure and buying a bunch of cheap games on Steam that sit in my owned games tab, I don't really play my PC. I like turning on my console, putting in the game, installing if it's something I am really serious about, and playing. The patching and the tweaking and the unpleasentness is all taken care of. Unless it is free, completely out of left field, or PC exclusive I simply don't have the time or money to stay on top of PC gaming.

I think either consoles need to become more free or pcs need to become cheaper. I'm buying a pc for gaming.. Now I know it's not as much if you build your own but buying a premade pc for gaming is expensive.. The day I can buy a pc for 600$ that is already built and plays everything on ultra I'll be a happy man.

I was thinking about the increasing prices of console hardware for the manufacturers the other day. If they already sold the PS3 and 360 at release not making any profits, can you imagine the next gen ones? I think this is the biggest reason they want this generation to last for long, they will need quite some money to make the new hardware prices lower than they should, since the big money comes from the royalties of gaming sales. It's also something quite interesting, I don't think there will be a crash or anything but maybe the focus won't be on graphics in the future but in digital stores, selling games directly from the networks and so on.

Considering the current latest PC graphics cards are going for $400+ each, lets guess (wildly) at: $150 for the four-billion transistor GPU, $100 for a quad-core processor and $80 for 8GB DRAM - based on $1.25 for 2Gbit memory (spot market prices - that's proper research that is!). $200 R&D, build, marketing and guff $530 - convert that to £s = £530 (not £333 thanks to evil money-grabbing types who ignore the .63 $/£ exchange rate.) And we're almost at the point where a next gen console becomes affordable. Can't be too far off, but while the middleware and graphics engines are now more than capable, most developers will need a good deal of ramp up time to produce the games that these consoles demand. The most important part of the equation - the Grand Theft Auto/Unreal/MGS/id-engine teams need to have finished their final this-gen products, had a holiday and settled down to master the next-gen code engines before its worth announcing anything.

well in some reports its said that the new Xbox codename "infinite" will not be a games console, but a media station with the main goal of music, movies, social networking and gaming last. there is rumoured to be a brand new dashboard running on a modified version of windows 8 pro with sliverlight and full gui java flow. it has also rumoured to have full controller-less control with no need for joypads as playing games has taking a back seat this time.

Well if this is true and she is responsible for the new Xbox dashboard, then this news does not bode well for the next Xbox. Maybe time for a return to Sony next Gen or just do my gameing on PC. Consoles are becoming to cluttered nowadays, they becoming less and less about just gaming.

Doesn't sit right with me...not because it's too soon [this has been the longest console generation in the history of gaming], but because that's too big of a gap. Wii U is set to hit the middle of next year. Do they really want to let Nintendo have up to a year and a half's head start? Betting the farm on Nintendo pulling a Dreamcast is risky, risky business, especially when the parallels aren't there beyond 'launched too early'. They're better off doing it winter 2012, sucking up Christmas gift money with Halo 4 as their killer launch app. It's coming, but I think the analysts have the wrong year...

Currently the budget isn't there for me for this. and 2nd, I will not be the one to buy a first generation new console every again, did that twice with PS2 and Xbox 360. If this si the case I would buy within a year after the release, unless they pull a GTA5 bundle on me.
