But in case you weren't aware, "fast-travel," in the context of sandbox games, generally means the ability to warp from one point to another (i.e. GTA IV's trip-skip cabs or Red Dead's campsites).

Just go into the game expecting the worst and you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised is all I'll say.

I for one still think the original game is a classic, and am glad it was more "complicated" because it added depth and options to the gameplay. The Enhanced Edition is also much improved over the vanilla version. Only one section gave me problems as far as stability is concerned, and aside from being somewhat unoptimized it played very well.
I'm only 1.5 chapters into TW2: EE and loving every minute so far.

OH COME ON. I can't be the only one that hated this game. The game play is repetetive, clues are incredibly easy to find, Cole Phelps is unlikeable, side quests have no point( i.e. Why did I spend countless hours looking for 50 gold film reels, that have absolutely nothing to do with anything??? - most other games would at least reward you with a new suite or a new car), the few puzzles in the game are insultingly easy. The only real challenge is figuring out if someone is lying and contrary to what the game tells you, looking at facial expressions is not necessary. I could go on and on but the truth is this game is a rental at best.

I recently beat LA Noire and I have to say the ending was bad as was the game play. Not enough action and def not enough of a twist in the story line..Same shit with a paint job.. Great you can see more emotion in a characters face but you cant shoot them in the head. LA Noire is way over hyped and has no replay vaule for me. I have no interest in going back and listening to the same people tell me slightly different answers in their interrogations.

My friend got this game for me. I enjoy it, and I want to enjoy it a whole lot more, but the enemy AI feels so unfair a lot of the time. It seems like in any 50/50 scenario, they always get the upper hand. And at the time of this writing, I've tried to beat the fifth Security story mission about ten times to no avail, though it is getting better. Definitely not a game that I'd pay $60 for, but if you enjoy this kind of game and can find it at a reasonable price, look into it.

I was looking forward to Brink for so long, but what a disappointment. I know it was supposed to be along the lines of TF2 and what-not, but fuck, it gets old so fast. It was a slog just to get through one campaign story, and don't bother trying to listen to the audio... I couldn't understand half the characters (not that the story makes a difference)... Was anyone else somewhat let down by SMART's actual use? I really hope some decent DLC comes out for it... This is why I never buy new games... Im so fucking stupid. A 6 game, maybe 7 at best.

It absolutely boggles my mind (more than the puzzles in the game even!) how Valve manages to top themselves like this.
That said, I personally do wish to know more about the crazy character that is the Aperture Facility (I do consider it a character in itself right along with GLaDOS and Wheatley) but realize that those answers would take away from the mystique. Oh well, when life gives you lemons...

Portal 2 has got to be one of the best games i've ever played. I've beat the single player twice now (once with the commentary, which was more scarce than i hoped for but a great addition nonetheless) and plan on playing it again and again on into the future. As someone else said here, the script and atmosphere are so cool that its fun to reenter the world despite knowing the puzzle solutions. But the co-op, oh GOD, the co-op. Portal 2's co-op campaign is the MAIN EVENT. to all you people out there criticizing the game for being too short, or not worth 60 bucks, then you must not have a cool enough friend to play the co-op with. Seriously. it is 5 or 6 hours of the BEST GAMEPLAY ON THE PLANET. That brings the grand total of Portal 2's game time to 10-12 hours, and THAT is a lot of game in this day and age. I cannot say enough good things about this game.

I'm not really too sure how I feel about Portal 2. Was it just me or did the humor get old about half way through the game? I don't know. The game is as good as it can be, but I don't think I would ever buy it. To anyone on the fence: rent it or borrow it from a friend (like I did), play the crap out of it, and you'll be good for about a year. By that time you'll have forgotten all of the puzzles and repetitive jokes.

And as for the people complaining about "another 10" (gilgamesh), they've given out 3 10/10s in 2011. Keep in mind they use the 10 point scale, not IGN's scale with the .5's and all.

I loved this review, but I think that you were a bit over dramatic with most of your complaints. With the exception of the bosses. I haven't thrown a tantrum over an impossible level since I was five. Until the last level of MK 2011 story mode. GOOD GOD WAS IT DIFFICULT. But other than that, phenomenal game!
