EH "Will be similar to what can be done on high-end PCs now’" Thats not really WOW to be honest, and frankly im more interested in Unique uses of the Unreal Engine, Metroid Prime used Unreal 2.5 and it still looks amazing compared to what we see Devs do with Unreal 3

True dat. God, some people just don't realize... if Nintendo (and a few other choice developers) can make games for the Wii that look just as good as any other current-gen offerings on 360 and PS3, I can't wait to be blown away by what they can do with the leap to HD graphics. With New Super Mario Bros. U it's clear they're just warming up and it still looks beautiful. With a U already in my home, and a quality gaming PC coming into my hands soon, I'm incredibly apprehensive to drop cash on any of MS or Sony's consoles unless they can offer something truly astounding for the right price point... something actually on par with where gaming PCs will be soon, at the least. Which seriously isn't likely at all for a reasonable price point.

Um, yeah, absolutely. Bearing in mind that the current generation of PC hardware was released in 2011 (My Radeon 7850 was released November 2011), Epic are really saying that "when launched the new games consoles will only be able to match 2 year old PCs". Very unexciting!

One of the nice things about gaming on a pc is the fact that you don't have to purchase a whole new system in order to play new games. Sure, you may have to make the occasional upgrade, especially as hardware improves, and game developers utilize it, it's not nearly as expensive as purchasing a new console when it's released. If the next-gen consoles could find an efficient way to make them backwards compatible, you might find more people willing to purchase the consoles at the beginning, instead of waiting for the first big price drop. Regardless of whether or not the systems are made BC, a lot of people who have built up their game libraries will probably still use their current gen systems, at least occasionally, even if they have the next-gen console. As far as used games being eliminated, I think this was a mistake. I recently tried out Gamefly, and thought it was the perfect way to try out games before making the decision to purchase them. I have already purchased one game I tried through them, and will probably get at least two or three more of them. I have also purchased a few ps3 games through ebay, and one of those was used. I like the idea of being able to purchase a game I've been wanting for a while well after it's release, when you may not be able to purchase it in a store. Plus, it can be nice getting an older game for less than retail cost.

Wipeout HD and F-Zero GX are beautiful. Soon, very soon I plan on having myself a PC that can run some of our better, more modern FPS games and such at 60fps at a tolerable quality, hopefully. Now that Bioshock Infinite has been pushed back once again, I can take my time a bit.

I just hope consoles can have no up-scaling and anti-aliasing! the graphics will probably improve but if they upscale and ignore aliasing problems then it will be worthless. PC almost always has options for this even on older games, i feel this is an issue that should have been fixed on consoles this gen. Games like FF XIII and the 2nd one whether or not you like the gameplay and story you have to admit they look gorgeous so I know it is possible this gen. but huge games like say skyrim I would understand they wouldn't have addressed these on current consoles. I think games are great where they are at and next gen if they tweak little issues like this then suspending disbelief will be that much easier!

"...but it could also transform video games into the most emotionally engaging medium of entertainment." Umm... they already are. Video games are the only medium (seriously, name me another one aside from the possible exception of books, which have been around forever) that have the power to resonate emotions in their audience (the player) on an intimate, actually PERSONAL level, owing to their interactivity. I didn't need to tell this to you or anyone who frequents this site. But I felt that I really needed to after reading a statement such as that one. Honestly, you guys have already said stuff in support of this, see: http://www.gamesradar.com/why-the-notion-that-games-need-photoreal-graphics-to-tell-better-emotional-stories-is-backward-nonsense-whatever-2K-boss-says/ A game, or even a freaking motion picture, does not need to even remotely approach "real" or "photoreal" in order elicit strong, impactful emotional resonance in its audience. And as usual, Mr. Houghton, probably my favorite writer, like, ever, is there to support me. He says it better than I do, so you should read that piece of his if you haven't already.

I don't know... I just don't feel I have the cash for a new generation console, and I have plenty of already released games I want to play on this generation, so if the next generation launches in the next year or so I'll probably have to do what I did for this generation and buy a second hand console a couple of years after it's released.

You know, I was on the "not ready" side. But then I read this and it's sort of made me a bit more OK with it. Mostly because of the point about the new IPs but I do love that feeling of excitement when you first open the box for that shiny new console. But honestly if my PC wasn't so slow and crappy I'd totally be a PC gamer.

Occasionally EA does come out of its shell of endless sequels and try and do something a bit different (Mirror's Edge, Dead Space). Certainly, there are some great concepts on the 16bit machines that have never been re-visited, but deserve it!

I love my PCs but I find it hard to compare the experience with my consoles. I remember growing up patching everything, tweaking this and that to get games to play, and dreading the games that would not like my video card for some reason. I recently bought a PC that I could easily upgrade for Diablo III but aside from Abobo's big adventure and buying a bunch of cheap games on Steam that sit in my owned games tab, I don't really play my PC. I like turning on my console, putting in the game, installing if it's something I am really serious about, and playing. The patching and the tweaking and the unpleasentness is all taken care of. Unless it is free, completely out of left field, or PC exclusive I simply don't have the time or money to stay on top of PC gaming.

I think either consoles need to become more free or pcs need to become cheaper. I'm buying a pc for gaming.. Now I know it's not as much if you build your own but buying a premade pc for gaming is expensive.. The day I can buy a pc for 600$ that is already built and plays everything on ultra I'll be a happy man.

I was thinking about the increasing prices of console hardware for the manufacturers the other day. If they already sold the PS3 and 360 at release not making any profits, can you imagine the next gen ones? I think this is the biggest reason they want this generation to last for long, they will need quite some money to make the new hardware prices lower than they should, since the big money comes from the royalties of gaming sales. It's also something quite interesting, I don't think there will be a crash or anything but maybe the focus won't be on graphics in the future but in digital stores, selling games directly from the networks and so on.
