Hoping to get into the beta for this. Never played FFXIV because my sister played it and...well bad feedback happened :| Fully looking forward to this though, don't even care if it's just standard MMO. The game looks amazing and the environmental detail and character model / armour detail looks astonishing. Though i've been some alpha gameplay and it looks pretty decent. Only thing i'm questioning is level progression and how each level matters, what it will give the player as a reward etc. Either way just glad to hear it's on track to be good :D

In my opinion the things that make F2P bad are 1. the items they offer in the item shop and their effect on games' economies; 2. the focus that F2P place on those items (they sometimes make them almost necessary to compete with endgame content); and 3. the lack of new content that should be delivered on a regular basis given the emphasis they place on item shop purchases. Don't get me wrong, I whole-heartedly think that if you like a game, you should support it's development and advancement financially. But not at the expense of of keeping the game interesting and innovative. Too often, you end up buying the touted game shop items, only to find they come out with more stuff to get you to keep spending that really doesn't add any real content to the game. If you are going to have an item shop, stock it with mostly convenience items that doesn't affect your ability to advance in the game or compete at the upper levels. Most end-game content in F2Ps are driven purely by item shop purchases, which is totally against the purpose of trying to grow your character. I agree with the statement above about someone new to the game catching up with me at my endgame level purely by buying the right items. They should have to work and sweat their way to the top just like i did. That is one of the main things that drive players away from games. That, and lack of new content and the ruination of the game's economy. Take a hint from WOW guys. No item shop items that can't be gotten though diligent gameplay.

Am I the only person who'd rather have pay to play? I might have the concept wrong of F2P but having someone join a game late in it's cycle but being able to run with the big boys by buying everything turns me off F2P (like I said before i might have concept wrong)

The eSports stuff was lost on me since I consider such things a complete joke. I felt a little put off that a lack of subscription somehow seemed to justify the $60 price tag according to Brian, or at least that's how it seemed. This smacks of exploitation. They have a terrific IP, and rather than treating the fans respectfully, with full-fledged games with complete sequels, they break up a single game to exploit their fans for more cash. no, one doesn't have to buy these, but it doesn't make it any less exploitative. For me it's extra sad, because I really loved Starcraft, but I refuse to be milked for that. A battle-chest of some sort in about 2-4 more years or so will probably be the only way I will ever play these. As it stands I've got far too much personal integrity to let myself be taken advantage of this way. Sorry Brian, I have to disagree with most of your point.

Except it's not 1 game split into 3 really, is it? Did you even play the first one? The campaign, on brutal, is 12 hours+ for someone with an average skill with SC. Paying base price for a game with a campaign over 12 hours long, and no multiplayer, is normal nowadays. Throw in an addictive multiplayer and it's a bargain (well, except Blizzards pricing is a little higher than most). Also, top-tier Starcraft is incredibly fun to watch, even without an MLG sub. Just use Youtube, and watch Day9, the greatest gaming personality evar.

@Thedigitalg: Agreed! I'd also go so far as to compare Starcraft 2 to Harry Potter. Each movie is essentially a chapter in one large book. Fans paid full price for every book and movie ticket with a smile on their face. @Icehearted: That's ok man, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Would I be happy if it were only $40? Hell yeah! Would I still buy it if it were $60? Absolutely! To each their own. =D

Thank you for acknowledging the most unique and different races. I've read so many articles about how this one is better than the other, or how my preference is superior to yours. Diversity in character profile, breaking free from the dry fantasy "Big, medium, small" you encounter in the character creation phase, is quite refreshing.

My god you are the most idiotic, fucking stupid person I have EVER come across on this site. You dont even realize what your posting do you. You have the equivilant of a "I know you are but what am I" argument. So everything you just typed is you saying you're NOT telling us to NOT play the game. Ok. I give you that. Fine. So, you still havent answered the very basic question. What the fuck are you arguing? What IS your point? What are you trying to prove? That you know about WoW and we dont? That you think its a good game and we dont? That we're not looking into it deep enough and judging it based on pandas? Do you NOT realize how fucking stupid that makes you look? You're arguing for the sake of arguing. I dont know what you're trying to acomplish with this. And yeah, I AM going to keep replying to you. Its how I am. Ask anyone on this site, Ive turned 2 pages into 24 pages by saying just ONE word as a reply. So you MIGHT wanna stop.

You're all implying the addition of the Pandaren race is the main part of the game. Pointing out the fact that there's Pandas and bashing the game on that is completely ignorant. The game is good, there's a reason I've been playing it since Burning Crusade, and the MoP expansion hit many spots well (Except for Warlock changes, f*** you blizzard for making my class as easy as a mage) And on the topic of addiction: If you weren't playing wow, you'd be playing any other vidya, the amount of time you're wasting playing games isn't changing. Even as a hardcore raider, I don't find myself addicted to the game, videos games in general maybe, but my social and academic life hasn't been hurt by it. I'm able to manage my time on the game, I limit to maybe an hour a day simply to get gear for the upcoming Raids. When they come, I will be on the game for maybe 5 hours a week. I don't see WoW going free to play any time soon. The player base, while it has shrunk, is still massive and WoW makes well more money than other mmos.

I would pick this up, but after getting burned by SWTOR going F2P after playing for 3 months and dropping it because everyone lost interest, I'm going to pass. Guild Wars 2 has been great to me, in the way that I don't feel obligated to play because I'm not spending $15 a month to have the privilege to do so. Give it a year, WoW will be F2P, and probably pay2win.
