      It's nice that Biden doesn't believe- or at least, doesn't actively promote- that there's a correlation between violent video games and violent crimes, but his statement still leaves a little to be desired. Obviously, things like making trailers less violent and putting more emphasis on the charitable work companies like The Humble Bundle team do, but there's only so much the gaming industry themselves can do to change the public's view on them, and the rest's up to the public themselves. Them and the media, that is. Because no matter how much the gaming industry does to promote itself with it's "Spec Ops: The Line"s and it's "Professor Layton"s and it's "Portal"s, there's still going to be stuff like the Mass Effect "sex scene scandal"- which I'm now going to take to calling MassEffectGate- and there's still going to be violent games in at least some sense of the term that the media can focus all it's efforts on.

      Well I'm glad this didn't turn out to be the government looking for a scapegoat. Hopefully people outside the industry will start realizing how huge the games business is and stop pretending it's some kind of new trend.

      Simple minded dolts on both sides of the aisle are quick to find a subtitle scapegoat instead of tackling the real, but much more difficult to conquer, catalyst(s). And on almost every occasion that scapegoat takes the form of a newly prevalent and largely misunderstood or mistrusted medium or idea. Jazz, rock 'n roll, hip-hop/rap, homosexuality, immigration, etc, etc. While responses such as this are difficult to swallow for those fond of the target of the moment, they are almost always ephemeral (unless religion is involved, of course).

      The vast majority of people who own guns don't go out on killing sprees no matter how stressed/angry/sad they are. The majority of people who play video games don't go out on killing sprees no matter how much that game rewards violence against others in-game. With this logic, we may as well outlaw just about everything in existence because I'm sure if you look at everything in your house/room, the majority of it will have been used, somewhere in the world, to kill or attempt to kill somebody. It's fantastic saying things like "let's stop [insert group of people in society] from having weapons because they might commit the same kinds of crime, but the truth seems to be that some people just do it. There probably is a scientific explanation for it and we will probably know a lot more about it in the next 10 years or so. But, right now we don't really seem to know and all of this finger-pointing isn't getting anybody anywhere.
