To be frank, there is little to nothing they can do unless they scrap the whole thing and go back to the drawing board. Anyone who's swayed by these poor compensations are doing themselves and Microsoft a disservice.

Honestly I think they can "fix" this rather easily, with one simple change. They can even have the "install to disk" and all that. The only think that would be required is a disk check. If they have a disk check, they can back out all the other changes. Just disable them, if you will. Tell Vinnie the bagman his presence is no longer needed at Gamestop, etc.

"Or maybe, just maybe, it instead ticked most of the non-gaming announcements off its checklist, opting to leave a majority of the good stuff for its upcoming E3 conference. " This should have been obvious from the start, why blow a whole load of great information of upcoming games crammed into an hour, when they have E3 just around the corner. I believe anyone who has 'written off' either Micro or Sony based on the small snippets of information we have so far are being incredibly closed minded. Especially people who believe Microsoft (in particular) has created more of a 'set top box' than a games console. Of course it's a games console for crying out loud! It doesn't need the same/similar specifications as the PS4 if it's not going to be a console! I believe Mircosoft probably thought that it was obvious to everyone that the console would 'do games' and therefore decided to focus on things to differenciate it from the competition, rather than information it can reveal at....a games convention! Maybe it's just me, but it all just seems so obvious and I don't get what all the fuss is about!

Somebody at Reddit called Albino-Zebra tried putting the pieces together to see what it could end up looking like and he came up with this next image: http://pu.cdn.hub.nl/media/consoles/sony/ps4piecedtogether.jpg Found it on a dutch gaming site and it has some of the PS3 in it though it is a bit boxier. It is in no way said that this is a definite design, just someone trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle but I thought it was intresting enough to share.

The_Tingler They haven't. They're just not having a big expensive conference. The games will still be there.

1/2 hour Nintendo Direct has much more impact and call much more attention to us gamers than a 1 hour long forgetful pre-E3 press conference. In E3 you have to compete against Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, etc, everyone having their own conference trying to be the remembered at the end of the day. Last week when all news were focused on Nintendo Direct every game site was just talking about it instead of the new Ubisoft announcement like in the E3. E3 pre-conferences are becoming less and less important, Sony and Microsoft didn't announce their upcoming consoles there. More games are announced their own events. In sum no one wants to be overshadowed by ohter companies. PS: Ask your parents, colleges and friends that don't play games so often if they have any idea what is E3.

To be honest Nintendo NEED to differentiated themselves from Sony and MS. I keep hearing "they're goinna get blown out of the water when the next-gen consoles land", but they'd do better to try and carve their own ground instead of competing directly with these guys.

I wonder what Nintendo is doing I mean they haven't told us anything about their console or upcoming games since the last E3. I mean its not like the internet has evolved beyond the need for something like E3. Nintendo has obviously given up hope on themselves if they don't show their company off at an amalgamation of people trying to make all the games the same and show less of the actual gameplay and more explosions and call of duty games. But hey If Nintendo wants to do something different they are wrong and they should die in a pit of tigers.

Can't wait for this. Just Cause 2 was like one of those games you would think up as a kid and playing it kinda made me wonder why nobody made this before. I mean everything is better with grappling hooks.

We need a 3D Mario game with proper level design and not something that is made out of legos like the 3DS one. Big, fully explorable 3D levels that look like they take place in mushroom kingdom not in a fake world made out of plastic boxes.

To be fair, 3D platforming in general has been thrown off so many times and hard to get the general concept of, open worlds don't usually make for.good platforming unless its built around it. Here's hope Nintendo can do it, they put new standards with both galaxy games will brilliant although might seem linear, so hopefully they can build it around open world

Lets all just play NES for the rest of our lives and forget about actually living in the present day. Agreed, Kinect sucks for hardcore gamers and I doubt it will every be too useful but to say that a new xbox is a bad thing is just plain wrong. Even if you play on PC exclusively you will still benefit.

Even if they announce their next console, there's no possible way it's coming out this year. The earliest it could come out if there's an announcement for it at E3 2013 is Fall of 2014... a full 2 years after the U has already hit the market. I'm not interested such a console as the PC gaming space is only getting better and better and more appealing, and the U is just so fun. Those next consoles from Sony and MS are probably going to be way overpriced as well, and there isn't much they can do to add to graphical prowess to get on anywhere near as impressive a level as PCs today for a reasonable price tag. I just don't think there's much need for new consoles, and devs will probably agree as the cost of development of them will be astronomical in comparison to the U and the current crop.

In addendum, I think the only way the new MS and Sony consoles could justify their price is if they choose to do something really innovative and cool... something nobody's seen before except in mere concept. Like those VR headset things that people have been talking about, or those mind-control peripherals that I remember GR wrote about on here once awhile ago...
