Burnout Revenge(360): Crash party mode. Possibly the greatest thing to happen to a racing game since nitro. Paradise wasn't all that great, it felt a lot like the original Midnight Club. Don't get me wrong, I liked Midnight Club back in 2000 - But that was 2000. Paradise was fun for awhile, but became tired - I ended up trading it in and kept Burnout Revenge in my library. That alone speaks volumes about Revenge - it was one of the first games I bought when I got my 360, and it's still amazingly fun to play. Single player races are always fun, time trial test runs and takedown challenges are a blast, but the local multiplayer is a major draw because of crash mode. Punting cars into oncoming traffic then slamming into a semi head on, watching the damage meter fill up then Crashbreaker! You really have to pound the crap out of "B", while some unseen group of dudes chant "light it up, light it up" or "crashbreaker, crashbreaker" -- then BOOM, the blast sends things flying like Starkiller's omni-directional force push. You send you car careening into a lower street filled with still moving vehicles, haha suckers! What's that? Another crashbreaker? Don't mind if I do! ... Then they made that XBLA thing that... well, sucked. Maybe EA made them do it, I can't imagine Criterion devs saying "You know what'd be fun? A top down micromachines crash game." Had they asked fans, I'm sure the united response would have been "Yeah! Let's ruin the thing we love!" Actually, maybe that is what happened and Criterion doesn't recognize sarcasm...

I'm torn on this. They'd make one mother of a fun game, but I don't know if they could be true to what Road Rash implies. Criterion's about as subtle as Michael Bay, and I don't know if they could resist the urge to jump the para-sailer that's jumping the wakeboarder that's jumping the water-skier that's jumping the shark of outlandishness. The last time Road Rash tried to be new and edgy, we got the utter travesty that was Jailbreak. Honestly, the company I would've trusted with it was Bizarre. I have no doubts that they'd be able to hit the sweet spot between fun and outlandish, all while capturing the magic of Road Rash 3. And now that I'm thinking about it...I'd love to see what Criterion could do if they *weren't* handcuffed by Road Rash's legacy!

I remember thinking, not too long ago, that it would be awesome to see a new Road Rash game; and it looks like somebody has been eavesdropping on my brain. I still kind of wonder, though, how they will handle it; the old ones were pretty simplistic.

As good as this looks - and believe me, I will be buying it - it still disappoints me that the car customisation has been dropped. I know people say this every time a new NFS is released but wasn't that supposed to be the point of the series? Race the best you can, as fast as you can, in a bitchin' ass car? No?

O ye humble and generous gods at Criterion, we beseech thee to bestoweth upon us thine holy light of arcade racing greatness forevermore. Amen. ... Man, I loved Most Wanted to death. I loved Hot Pursuit to death as well. Gee, I've probably died from so much love for games so many times that whenever I visit heaven Jesus asks me for an update on what great games he should be playing from down below before he sends me back. Jesus is a pretty religious (see what I did there?) gamer himself, but he's made me take a vow to secrecy on what his Gamertag, PSN ID, and Steam username are. You wouldn't want that info anyway. He never cheats (obviously), but too often he has help from his Dad. And that, I've heard, is the best help there is. :P

All I have to say is HELL YES! Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator on the PSP were so addicting, I remember sinking at least 15 hours into one of them. I just hope that the game will be a true Burnout game, and not the complete mess that Burnout Crash was.
