I think that this movie is truly great. While I did find Johnathan Blow a little, for lack of a better word, pushy with his opinions with his game, he had created a game in which he wanted players to ponder the story's meaning and realize the symbolism of the time shifting and such, and look deeper into the game, as he intended it as a work of art. Also, many people are calling these developers, and even this movie pretentious, I think that these are people who have always dreamed of designing their own video games, and designing video games is far from an easy task, and sacrifice their free time, money, social life, and a whole lot more just to make something the we, as gamers, are able to play and enjoy. Think about that for a moment. They are sacrificing so much so that we can enjoy it, and they can express their feelings into it. They weave a story, that, if followed, can be better than even some books! Indie games are personalized, and a created by a very small team of creative people. These people express their personal views on many issues, and code and design for many hours on end trying to please not only themselves, but the gamers too. I do realize the opinion of the game itself should not be affected by the developers personal sacrifices, but if one just breezes through the story, only focusing on the tiniest glitches and mere graphical problems, and automatically labels the game as "shit", that is truly sickening. I am not calling all indie games a work of art, as some are poorly made and are not very good, I say that we should give them a chance, and that this movie really represents these views.

Well, this review certainly confirms to me that I have absolutely no need to watch this piece of pretentious crap. I'm sorry, but even each of the pictures shown in this article scream "PRETENTIOUSNESS" And a rather hilarious attempt to make you sympathize with a bunch of guys that play themselves as the victims, while obviously they all think themselves are the big shit. Or brilliant or misunderstood authors that struggle in a world that just doesn't get them! *Melodramatic sob!* I have no doubt there might be some interesting things to be heard from this movie. But considering even the filmmakers tried to make things even more pretentious by adding some ridiculous symbolism. I'm positive I would end up being more angry and annoyed after watching the film, than delighted. Also, an artist's personal life or issues shouldn't really influence into what one thinks about the actual product. If their product is shit, then it's shit, even if in person he's such a nice guy, and he pours his soul into his game, still doesn't changes anything if the game is bad. (Not saying any of the games mentioned in this movie are bad, because they aren't. But I don't agree with the last paragraph of this article at all.)

So pretentiousnes: the Drama TV series now? Seriously... I take gaming as seriously as anyone else here. But what could possibly be oh so heart wrenching as to warrant a TV series out of indie developers? "Oh boo hoo! they are pushing me to make the deadline! WHAT AM I GONNA DOOO! THEY DO NOT COMPREHEND MY GENIUS"

I don't mind the trailer - manipulative music aside - I'm just confused as to when the SNES controller became the poster controller for the indie gaming movement.

Obligatory how? I'm actually not one to throw the word "pretentious" but look at that trailer well. look at the shots they have of the creator of braid, sitting against light so only his silhouette is outlined and tell me it's not a pretentious shot. I don't think anyone here is actually ragging against indie games themselves. What annoys me personally, is the attitude of their creators, and the "They are such great, hardworking, undervalued genuises!" tone of the entire trailer. Indie games have humble beginnings, so their creators should also be humble, not portray themselves as martyrs.
