I think this whole article is hypocritical.
Not a week goes by without Gamesradar posting a feature about "Things we'd like to see in the next ... game." Yet this article seems to condemn a developer from seeking input from the people who will end up consuming the product.
Your frequent articles always lay out exactly what kind of changes you'd like to have implemented in the next installment in a series: can we assume that you'd be unhappy if these changes were not put in place? But should a developer actually ask your opinion on the very same subject, they're accused of "becoming afraid of their own voice"? This doesn't quite add up to me.
Furthermore, unless you're actually a fan of the game series, you're unlikely to be following the twitter page, so why not ask for feedback from the core audience of fans, as it's going to be them playing the game.
Gamesradar already published a feature about the next game in the series. So, please, explain to me, why are you condemning the makers for seeking some fan input, when you so clearly want to be listened to when you publish features entitled: Mass Effect 4 – Where we want to see the franchise go next (7th March 2012)

Hey IGN get the hell outta here, I'm in for GR features.. oh..
ME series has lost its step in storytelling after the first game with the "lul collecturz" and almost entire focus on Cerberus (same time Drew was pulled from it), also way bigger focus on action/making Shepard some kind of Master Chief in Gears of War gameplay which pretty much flushed down the toiled the soul of Mass Effect. Almost as if George Lucas was hired to make ME2 and ME3.
It's no surprise at all they can't make a coherent game by now. Putting the blame on the consumers for their mess is just pure class.

This has kind of been my stance on the whole issue for a while now. Gaming is the only medium where the audience feel it has the unquestionable right to tell creators how they should do their jobs. I mean, would you tell JK Rowling that

If they make a prequel it shouldn't be about the first contact wars, they have been documented in the original mass effect trilogy and the novels so there wouldn't be a lot of choices as the outcome has been decided.
The first book also mentioned that only a couple of hundred persons died on both sides. After the Turians took over a planet populated by humans both sides prepared for full out war but then the Council stepped in to keep things under control.
Playing as the protheans or any other race in the previous cycle does mean that we allready know how it is going to end, playing as any other race from that cycle also includes being enslaved too, yay about that!
So if you ask me they really should make a sequel, but how they are going to include everything we have done so far could be difficult.
Is it smart of them to keep asking these questions in twitter btw? They got a nice big shitstorm about the ending (though I didn't really have problems with it) because they made promises a lot of people felt they didn't keep.
They should know that there is no way they are going to include all the suggestions they get on twitter so I can see this blowing up in their face.

I like the idea of a prequel, but a SW:KOTOR style prequel. Set it in the era of the previous Reaper invasion, have Protheans, have all new alien races! That way you can work in a different style of weapons and powers without messing up your established canon. I was skeptical about KOTOR (how can you have a Star Wars game set so far in the past, without your existing good/evil set up?) but Bioware pulled it off. I think they could do it with this provided they were given license to do so by EA. I agree that the story would perhaps be ultimately less rewarding, as you have to end up with the destruction of the Protheans, but there's enough scope there for choosing HOW you get there given the relative sparsity of information in the current trilogy.

FINALLY, some love for BioWare! This doesn't really have anything to do with this article, but am I the only one who DIDN'T hate the ME3 ending, and who didn't lose all faith in BioWare because of it?

It's a nice little publicity stunt, taking advantage of Activision's blunder to promote their game and look like the good guys. Also Mass Effect is definitely a game worth playing.
Also 2 may not be the best place to start, but PS3 players didn't have an option but to start there (until the advent of the Mass Effect Trilogy just now).

I still think it's a shitty system, blocking off a lot of people like that (including me, who LOVED the PvP), but I'm excited!
This means I can finish a lot of fantastic story archs!

It's not the destination man, it's the journey. I think that's a tune we can all dance to.

I think in Mass Effect 4 you should play as a Raloi. The new avian race that just joined the galactic community. When the reapers invaded the Raloi fled in an attempt to fool the reapers into thinking they were not space-faring. You would play as a young Raloi after they have developed a resistance to the H7N7 virus. You would go back to the citadel and defend your race's actions during the reaper war. You would then have to prove your loyalty to the council and the citadel.
You would not have a very high tech ship if you could even afford one at all. The Raloi government would not be able to support you very much because they are rebuilding after destroying all they satellites in an attempt show the reapers that you weren't space-faring. You would also not have the best weapons, armor, or equipment available. You would almost always be outgunned in missions. You would not have many squad members that would come around with you because of the poor conditions. Many of the races will not cooperate with you either because of your race's actions during the reaper invasion or because of simply not knowing much about your race. It would be a tough journey but in the end you would finally gain respect from the citadel species.
This is how I think Bioware could change up the view of the mass effect universe. It would show a completely different side that we may have only caught glimpses of during Shepard's journeys. It would be more in the slums; even worse slums than on omega. This is what I would really like to see in the new Mass Effect 4. Though I know the likelihood of seeing a product like this is poor; I will still hope.

Anderson was apparently quite the bad*** in his day during the First Contact War. That would be fun to play through.
But more importantly!! - BioWare needs to be focusing on getting me my KoTOR 3. The demand for that is much higher than any Mass Effect 4 will ever be.

I'd have thought this was a no brainer after the ending(s). Spoilers! Shep's either buried in rubble, an A.I. God/dess or dispersed every molecule of him/her self across the entire universe. They'd tick off two thirds of the fanbase if the sequel went with a canon ending and rolled with Shep again. "So, I guess my ending choice didn't matter either!" I am interested to see where they go with this.
