Super Mario on 3DS will have more classic costumes besides the Tanooki Suit

According to the game's director, Yoshiaki Koizumi, the game itself will dictate which suits make it into the game, not the other way round.Although with the retro ethos, it seems likely that old, famous suits will be recycled rather than new ones being added in. He toldOfficial Nintendo Magazine:

I should point out that we don't necessarily decide on what number of famous Mario suits will appear in the game and proceed from there - we try to find interesting gameplay ideas and then try to settle on what to do in different places. But I can say that we will definitely have some more familiar suits than just the Tanooki Suit.

This is great news as far as we're concerned. While we love 10/10-scoring Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 dearly, there's just something special about SMB3-era Mario that's simply not present in his newer games, even 2D-styled New Super Mario Bros. While we're all up for seeing the Hammer suit make a reappearance, there's just one thing left to say, really. The campaign for the return of Kuribo's Shoe starts here!
