A new Suicide Squad trailer is here, reminding us yet again that just about anyone - even half-crocodile cannibal monsters - become just a little more likeable when paired with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." The explosive trailer suggests a darkly comedic tone for DC's evil ensemble film, which hopefully won't have to work quite so hard to remind everyone that, no, really, these aren't the shiny Avengers or the work-in-progress Justice League - these are the vile dredges of the DC universe rounded up for an impossible, thankless job. Watch the trailer below...
The rapid-fire montage also does a good job of explaining the Suicide Squad's rowdy composition - who's in it, what their modus operandi is and how many of them are possessed by witches (1). It's also a breakout segment for Jared Leto's version of the Joker, who makes his biggest appearance so far. Based on the texture and personality of this trailer, though, Suicide Squad will be the first time DC's most infamous villain has to entertain not as a counterpart to Batman, but a cluster of eccentric villains.
Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
