For many, acting is just a job but, when Donald Glover steps into the shoes of Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie, it’s personal – like first ever childhood toy personal. Yes, seriously.
“Lando’s a big deal,” Donald Glover told Deadline. “He’s the first toy I ever got.”
Glover has already spoken about the sacrifices he’s having to make for the role of Han Solo’s (former) best bud but it’s the self-expectation that weighs heavy on the Atlanta star’s shoulders.
“It’s interesting, when you have something iconic in a range when people pay attention to it, it’s hard,” he said, before going on to show just how seriously he’s taking the task of playing Lando. “You want to live up to the expectation, but you can only live up to your own.”
But the boy and his toy will take it all in his stride when Glover begins his budding bromance with Alden Eihenreich’s Han Solo – and he just wants to enjoy it, “I just want to have fun… I love [Alden Eihenreich]. It’s gonna be a fun time.”
D’aww, you guys. Stop toying with our emotions.
Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke, the as-yet-untitled Young Han Solo spin off is scheduled to be released in 2018.
