Stranger Things and Game of Thrones pick up Screen Actors Guild awards as Westworld misses out

It’s January, which means barely a week goes by without one big awards show or another – and this time it was the turn of the Screen Actors Guild to shower their peers with praise (and an awards trophy or two).

Game of Thrones looked to continue its awards drought with Peter Dinklage losing out to The Crown’s John Lithgow in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series (I’d be surprised if they can fit that on the awards plaque) but it did pick up an award for its stunt ensemble. Battle of the Bastards might have had something to do with it.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for our faves though, as Stranger Things won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series ahead of Game of Thrones and Westworld. The kids of Stranger Things can do it all – including rapping – so it’s nice to see the entire cast get some credit. But does Westworld deserve a few more awards to add to its mantelpiece?

Denzel Washington and Emma Stone picked up awards for Best Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Best Outstanding Performance by an Actress for Fences and La La Land respectively, with Viola Davis’ turn in Fences also picking up a supporting actress win.
