Fabulous cockpits? Hardly a huge surprise, given the developers. What did shock us when we chatted with Oleg recently was the extent to which the Battle of Britain design addresses criticisms levelled at IL-2 Sturmovik. The new sim will feature a dynamic campaign in which players can turn history on its head. It will utilise personality rather than aircraft-based AI, meaning you’ll tussle with cautious, reckless and tired adversaries.
Unexpectedly, it will also welcome modmakers with open arms. Users will be able to add all kinds of new content – including planes. One of the few limits imposed on the community will be map size. 1C:Maddox has plans to expand the series by moving on to theatres like North Africa and understandably the developers don’t want other people stealing their thunder.
Intelligent bots in multiplayer, amazing weather modelling, the potential to add crewed tanks... there’s a whole lot more to tell but we’ll save the rest for another time. With Battle of Britain still a speck on the horizon, there’s no point scrambling just yet.
