Steven Spielberg in talks to direct biblical epic

Back in September, rumour had it that Warner Brothers were targeting Steven Spielberg to direct their upcoming Moses biopic Gods And Kings . Now, Twitch is reporting that The Beard has entered official talks to do just that.

The film will chart the life of Moses from birth until death, and a script has been written by screenwriters Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine. Dan Lim and Matti Leshem are currently in place to produce, although Spielberg would be expected to bring in his own people should he take on the job.

The film would certainly offer Spielberg plenty of scope to indulge his penchant for filmmaking on a grand scale. Indeed, the story of Moses would throw up numerous set-pieces that would surely benefit from Spielberg’s magic touch.

The plague of locusts, the burning bush and the parting of the Red Sea might all appeal to Spielberg’s sense of the spectacular, with the delivery of the Israelites to the promised land a fittingly climatic finale.

At this point, talks are at a preliminary stage, but we’re hopeful that Steve will snap this one up as his next project. If he’s not keen though, maybe Mel Gibson could have a go? Just a thought…
