Square Enix forms smartphone division

Square Enix announced today that the company created a subsidiary called Hippo Lab, which began operation on March 7. The new studio will focus on creating new games for smartphones. According to Square's press release, the studio was created to work at the speed necessary in the fast changing phone and social game marketplace.

So far, no new titles from Hippo Lab have been announced. Square Enix's past smartphone titles and the upcoming Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy Tactics for the iPhone are being developed in-house by Square Enix proper.
