Splinter Cell turns the lights on

The change doesn't stop there. In the new game, you'll be able to interact with individual members of a crowd or to exploit entire groups of people. Will you act strangely so that one person alerts a guard (moving him away from his post to your benefit) or create a general panic to get to your goal unnoticed?

There will, of course, be scripted moments in the game, but the team is keen to implement a degree of chaos, inviting the player to - as Ferland says - "surf the chaos and ultimately create order in the midst of it so they can pass through." The team is currently working on balance regarding such mechanics, as too much bedlam would surely unbalance the game.

To us, it sounds as though Splinter Cell is going to try the Hitman approach, although we're sure all this talk of change won't result in a game style we've been playing for years. We'll have more exclusive info on how Sam Fisher, our beardy lead character has changed for Splinter Cell Conviction in tomorrow's preview update.
