We bet he is. Y’see, as well as being the story of a boy who is in mental communication with an alien light years away, it’s also a tale of a father/son relationship. Of course, that aspect is handled in a typically mid 20th century British middle-class, "emotions-are-something-we-don’t-talk-about" way in the book, but considering how Spielberg introduced that whole father/son bonding schmaltz into War of the World, you can guess what direction Chocky might go in. This could almost be an ET sequel (ETC?).
The book was previously turned into a Thames TV series in 1984 (it spawned two sequel series) and there’s a superb Radio 4 dramatised update of the book available on BBC Audio .
