It’s amazing how well this has aged. Sure, textures are a little flatter, there’s less detail in the background, and Taki’s chest has lost a few million polygons – but this is still a very slick, very attractive fighter. It plays superbly too – perhaps lacking in some of the subtler nuances of the sequels, but it’s well balanced, fast and, crucially, great fun. If you’re a little strapped for cash and can’t afford Soul Calibur IV for a few weeks yet, then this will fill the gap perfectly. No online play or mission mode, but it’s still a top-notch fighter.

DescriptionSoul Calibur gets an HD facelift and little else for its XBLA appearance. Still, the game's as pretty as ever and the gameplay holds up remarkably well.
