Sony's promotion with Edge Shave Gel has a problem (or, how to get free DLC)

If you've been in a drug store lately, you might have noticed bottles of Edge Shave Gel wrapped in special PlayStation packaging. If you buy one of those bottles, you'll get a code that can be redeemed online to get exclusive DLC for Infamous 2, Killzone 3, or Gran Turismo 5. But it turns out there's a much easier way to get the DLC.

It seems the codes are either not unique, or Sony just didn't implement a way to determine whether or not a code has been redeemed. So just going to the store and writing down the code will let you get the DLC - even if someone else already used that code.

So even if you don't shave, don't like Edge, or for any other reason had no desire to participate in the promotion, you can still get the DLC, completely free of charge.

Simply go to EdgeShave.com and enter one of the codes readily available online, fill out some personal info, and you're good to go. We tested it out ourselves and it does work. You can do this as many times as you want to nab the following content, as described by Sony:

* A Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack featuring two popular maps from Killzone 2
* Three Killzone 3 Unlock Points to use on the weapon or ability of your choice
* A customized Chevy Camaro SS “Edge Special” for Gran Turismo 5
* A special “Sniper Blast” in-game power for inFAMOUS 2. The long-range blast has a narrow area of effect to better equip you to take-on the enemy when inFAMOUS 2 arrives in June.

So let your facial hair grow. With free DLC like this, who needs to shave?

I have the KZ3 shave gel, which has a cool looking bottle. Now I'm more tempted to get killzone 3 and infamous 2 since I can get the DLC with it. If anything this is a win/win for both companies, by not being overly restrictive people who would buy one or both products are much more likely to buy both. Those who don't want to buy a bottle of shave gel and would rather look up a code online, still need to buy the game to use it. So nobody is losing out or screwed up by promoting it the way they did. All this is free advertising for both companies products, which the DLC being small amounts of code easily made.

hahaha... got all the DLC's even if I don't have some of the games... I'll probably give it to someone I know who has those games... thanks GR! and to whoever found out about this glitch...

Yep, got my Edge Camaro on Friday... and yet, there seems to be a lack of any Edge products in my medicine cabinet... strange.

Wow GR, I wonder how many of your staff members used that GeoHotz hacks...you seem to love screwing over business with "freebies".

The Dr. Pepper EA promo worked the same way too

Thank you, GR, these new Killzone maps are a ton-of-fun!

If you change the email you enter, you can continue to get free dlc. Even if its not even a real email, all the personal info can be fake. This is great, I've stockpiled 50+ codes for each piece of dlc.

Are they U.S only? I haven't tried them over here(Europe) yet.

    Thank You Sir! :)

This would be helpful if I didn't throw out all of my Sony stuff already. Oh well, they deserve the s*** they're gonna get for this.

Now I feel stupid for paying $5 for the retro pack.

You're really going out of your way to get sued, aren't, Gamesradar? I wouldn't stick a link to those free DLC codes on an official gaming site.

I don't even own any of those games, but I might get KZ3 so I did this anyway.

Just grabbed a code for InFamous 2 BUT i have an excuse for getting it for free... I'm a brit so can't get it any other way.. I had to find a zip code though so just used one for a Gamestop in Calafornia lol... Probably won't even work over here when InFamous 2 comes out...

Except Sucker Punch, but Infamous is a Sony-published game.
  • bluelabatt - March 19, 2011 12:41 a.m.

@chrisat928 Well they're all Sony studios, so they don't have to pay for DLC for this promotion. If anything, it might annoy PR at Gilette, because it doesn't add purchase incentive as a cross-promotion.

If their reusable some industrious individuals should go out and just post them in this article so I don't have to leave my house.

"So just going to the store and writing down the code will let you get the DLC" You can see the codes without opening the package? I would damn well hope they are reuseable then because anyone could have already used the code on your package. Aren't Dr Pepper's EA DLC codes reuseable as well?
