Sonic Generations gets PC release (and Silver the Hedgehog)

What we've got here is a case of good news/bad news. First we got our hands on screens of the just announced PC version of Sonic Generations. Then Sega released screens that show Sonic's flashy rival Silver the Hedgehog appearing in Generations. We'll give you a moment to think about which of those two is the bad news.

After the some PC requirements for Sonic Generations leaked, Sega confirmed that the title was coming to computers via download. It comes out November 1, the same day as the PS3/360 editions, and it‘ll hit download services including Steam. That was followed up by this collection of screens hitting Sonic's official Facebook:

Silver the Hedgehog premiered in Sonic's infamous, self-titled 2006 adventure and has stuck around since. Now he's just the next of Sonic's sidekicks to appear in Generations, and is so far the most upsetting addition. We're not saying this represents the next stage of the Sonic Cycle, but it could fit the part. We won't know for sure until the game comes out, so we'll comfort ourselves with this screen until then.

I don't know why people would even be getting upset over this. It's not like Silver's even playable here; if you hate him that much, you should be friggin' HAPPY to beat the crap out of him. I don't mind the guy myself, but I'm ready to wreak some vengence for how cheap his boss fight was in Sonic 06. And besides, at this point, everyone should know that just about EVERY Sonic game has introduced a new character. Sonic 2 gave us Tails, Sonic 3 gave us Knuckles, Sonic CD gave us Amy and Metal. This is coming from a guy who's played the series since the old days; not all the recent games have been great, but I still love me some Sonic. All the haters can go back to freaking out over Sonic getting a kiss from a human.

Its to bad for knuckles hes been replaced by shadow , sucks I know, and why do people hate silver so much he was the best character in sonic 06 and thats saying something.

i dont even want this game anymore... i wish that they would focus on the original characters (Sally, Rotor, Bunny, Antoine, and even Tails...) instead of add ons that nobody really likes...

Yeah, the only problem there, is that all those characters (With the exception of tails) were created, and are owned by Archie comics. Its probably too much of a copyrights issue for them to even bother trying to get the rights to use these characters.

Why are you guys having a s**t fit? It's a freaking boss fight. I'm pretty sure that beating the crap out of a character you hate should be a good thing. Also, finally a PC port is confirmed! I hope they don't half-ass it. At least make the graphics better than on consoles. I don't care if you have to use freaking arrow keys to navigate the menus. I just hope that the textures have a higher res.

Technically, yes. The title Generations means everything and by that stand point, silver is probably the rival of the modern era, with Silver on Dreamcast era. I wonder who the iconic boss of Modern will be, its been pretty much confirmed that Perfect Chaos will be the iconic boss of the dreamcast era. Im getting too hot headed, I just wanna see Classic sonic vs classic knuckles.

(Classic) Sonic V.S. Knuckles, man, if you know how many times we played that fight out back in primary school haha. That is all I have wanted to see since their game back in the 90's.

An old school sonic vs knucles woul be awesome. From what ive seen of the trailers, we have the following to look forward to at least; Sonic vs Metal Sonic (Classic) Sonic vs Shadow (Dreamcast era) Sonic vs Chaos (Dreamcast era) And now, Sonic vs Silver (Modern) Perhaps we might see another foe added in for the classic and modern sections. Knuckles would be perfect for the classic, its just a question of what to add for the modern era (God no! Not the werehog!)

Knuckles isn't considered a Rival in this game. You do race him though, along with many other characters.

WTF is wrong with you people silver was leaked months ago and its not like they are making you play as him no its just one boss fight, so you guys hate a character so much you cant beat him up? also i am fine with him having dialogue its not like hes going to be important to the plot. are people really so petty that just because one character they wont like will be in the game it will ruin the game for them. No matter whose in it the gameplay looks great and thats all that matters in the long run. In all honesty i see the PC port as the bad news since that just gives the people who don't want to pay for the game an easy way to pirate the game.

Calling people petty is a little harsh, especially considering most of us didn't know Silver was merely a boss fight. If that's the case Imma' kick his ass. And no, it won't ruin the game, but this is a sign of the infamous Sonic cycle, and I think we all have a right to be pissed about that. Maybe I'm just living in the ideals of my Genesis era.

Hey, if it's a bad game, I'll be glad that I can easily just say "Steam, this game is a pile of crap" and I can get my money back and spend it on something worthwhile. Unlike buying it for PS3/360 where I go to return it and they're like "Oh sorry it's been opened, we can only give you 1/2 credit, if that" or I try to trade it in and I get 1/4 what I payed for it. Also Silver and Shadow are both unnecessary characters. I think SEGA is going crazy with this whole "WE'LL BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS!" and not realizing they passed up the "glory" days a while ago.

You do realize the 'infamous Sonic cycle' only applies to Sonic 06 (and arguably Sonic Unleashed).

...no...no...i...just, no... Sega, why? All I have done is pray and hope they would not add Silver... I honestly don't know what to say right now. I think it's time we start a petition, Sonic deserves that from his fans, we all know he didn't want this to happen... I just don't know anymore...

The 'Generations' in the title tells you everything you need to know in terms of the characters in the game, doesn't it?
