Take the toffs-in-love template coined by Richard Curtis - then scrape away the soppy BS. The result is Someone Else, a bittersweet gem whose warm emotional honesty ranks it head and shoulders above its chocolate-boxy peers. Seinfeld look-a-like Steven Mangan is a revelation as David, the thirtysomething snapper who gets cold feet when it dawns that the only uncharted avenue of his three-year relationship with Lisa (Susan Lynch) is marriage… Performances and script are both first-rate, but what really rivets is how scarily /familiar/ it all feels, from the listless rebound romances to the forced insularity of post-breakup bachelorhood. Superb stuff.
