Tonight, during the Nintendo Direct livestream, president Satoru Iwata brought some Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS news. While we didn't get screens, a release window, or anything along those lines, we did find out that Nintendo wouldn't directly be handling the game, instead handing off some of the development duties to Namco Bandai.
Though series lead Masahiro Sakurai and Kid Icarus team Sora will he involved, some of the work will be pawned off on Namco's Keiki Kobayashi and Yoshito Higuchi, lead director on the Tales series.
What does this mean for the game? We have no idea, though it's not the first time Nintendo has handed off some of its biggest titles to third-party developers. In fact, the last Smash Bros. had several other studios involved, including Japanese developer Game Arts. You can also check out our list of gaming's biggest hand-offs, if you're wondering what has happened when Nintendo has sent Link and Samus off to other studios.
We'll keep you posted as more news develops.
