The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's newest expansion, Dragonborn, will bring players back to Solstheim in the hunt for the first Dovahkiin. Bethesda today announced the setting and released screenshots for the DLC, which is scheduled to hit Xbox Live December 4.

Solstheim, an island off the coast of Morrowind, was also the setting of The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon--itself an expansion to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Adventurers will find new Bonemold and Chitin armor and Stahlrim weaponry, and will enhance their own draconic powers with new spells to fortify an expanded arsenal of shouts, Polygon reports.

The DLC is set to cost $20 upon its release and as of yet has not been announced for PC or PlayStation 3. Chances are good we'll see it pop up on PC after about a month of Xbox exclusivity, and maybe, just maybe, on PS3 to boot.

    Perhaps Solstheim is simply, like it's location suggests, a midpoint between Morrowind and Skyrim?

    i understand 200+ years are supposed to have passed between morrowind/oblivion and the fourth era in skyrim, so a lot could've changed (dunmer leaving vvardenfell for solstheim, maybe?) but really nothing looks like it did before. solstheim was pretty much a wide uncivilized wilderness with a huge fort and a couple of those nord halls, whereas in these screenshots it seems to not only be much more developed, but the architecture is so clearly dunmer in origin, when before it was clearly nord. interesting stuff, looking forward to the lore behind this stuff.

    It's kinda funny going back to Solstheim in Skyrim because the Solstheim DLC in Morrowind was basically just Skyrim DLC. It was snowy and you fought bears and wolves as opposed to Guar and those damn Cliff Racers (these things better not return). From the looks of it though they are making it look a lot like Morrowind unlike the original Solstheim DLC which looked a ton like Skyrim and this is good since a change of scenery in Skyrim is definitely needed. Oh yeah and the giant, floating, useless, octopuses are back, YAY!

    totally agree dude, i had the same thought. morrowind was mostly gray and ashy and occasionally green, so to spice it up solstheim was really snowy and white. now skyrim's all snowy and white (or a large part of it, at least) so to spice it up, they're arbitrarily changing solstheim to be more like morrowind. and yeah, those flying betty netches...they definitely weren't in solstheim the first time. they were pretty much around the ascadian isles exclusively. i realize i've gone off the deep end in terms of lore nerddom here, but this announcement is huuge to me. i only wish more of morrowind was open, maybe some of the places not destroyed by dagoth-ur
