Simon Pegg says Star Trek 3 will return to spirit of original TV show

Simon Pegg has been waxing lyrical about Star Trek 3 of late, with the co-writer and cast member explaining to Spinoff Online that the new film will return to the spirit of the original TV series.

“I think we just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show,” says Pegg. “And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know?”

“Where no man has gone before,” he continues, before catching himself, “where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slightly more enlightened generation. But yeah, that’s the mood at the moment.”

Having long been a Star Trek geek himself and after appearing as Scotty in the last two films, Pegg looks uniquely placed to do justice to a third episode in the series. With Justin Lin set to direct, the film is expected to arrive in the US on 8 July 2016, with a UK date to be confirmed.
