Shailene Woodley in line to head up young adult adaptation Divergent

Shailene Woodley’s star is very firmly in its ascendance, with last week’s news that she’s been earmarked to play MJ in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 now followed by talk of a plum role in what could prove to be the new Hunger Games .

Woodley is apparently in talks to star in the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s young adult novel Divergent , which is being brought to the big screen by Limitless director, Neil Burger.

Set in a dystopian version of Chicago, Divergent tells of a society split into five factions, of which membership is determined by an individual’s possession of a particular virtue.

A rigorous assessment ensues, but it soon becomes clear that lead character Tris is harbouring a secret… she possesses more than one of the allotted virtues, making her a divergent. And also making her a threat to the established order.

Getting those Hunger Games comparisons yet? Yes us too, although apparently, the novel has been almost universally well-reviewed, suggesting it’s more than just an opportunistic knock-off. Looks like dystopian teen angst is here to stay.
