Nintendo Switch barely needs any time to transfer play from your TV to its built-in screen and vice versa, though it isn't quite instantaneous. Judging by our hands-on test above, it will probably take longer to pick up your controller after docking or undocking than it will for the console to transition.
The game is automatically paused when switching from TV mode to handheld mode, which is also nice touch. That should prevent opportunistic bokoblins from capitalizing on Link's temporary paralysis.
