After months of rumours, it looks like Martin Scorsese is actually planning to bring Ol’ Blue Eyes himself – Frank Sinatra – back to the big screen.
It’s all come together nicely for Universal and Mandalay Pictures, which have been quietly plugging away on developing the film, locking down deals for his music and life rights.
It hasn’t been the easiest task – the job took a three-year slog figuring out contracts with Frank Sinatra Enterprises, which controls everything about the dead crooner.
We figure the words “Martin Scorsese wants to direct it” probably helped grease the wheels a little bit.
Phil Alden Robinson is now hard at work bashing out a screenplay for the film, though we don’t yet know if it’ll follow his entire life a la Ray or Walk The Line, or just focus on his fame and dames.
And there’s no word when Scorsese – who always has several projects bubbling away – will actually get behind the camera. But given how long it’s taken to get the film to this point, the studio is probably hoping he’ll start soon.
